Chapel Street Community Group is working with Stroud Town Council and artist Jess Farr to create a public work of art on the Chapel Street estate. After installing a bookswap in an unloved archway at the entrance to Chapel Street, further ideas for how to use this space have led to some of the donated books being remade into butterflies for onsite display.
Together, community members will transform the space for one day only with hundreds of origami butterflies, refolded from the pages of books donated to the bookswap.
The books being taken apart and repurposed for this project were originally donated to the bookswap, and cover topics from property and financial speculation through to methods for personal improvement. You are invited to come and explore this tucked away space, and reflect with us about the purpose and practice of regeneration.
Also join us on 15th June 10am-12pm for “Meet the Chapel Street Community Group” at Salvation Army citadel on Acre Street.
