SVA Venue Access

4 John Street, Stroud, Glos. GL5 2HA.

All spaces i.e. studios, gallery, event, café and toilets have level access and are wheelchair accessible. The building has an accessible lift. Vehicles can drop off people with disabilities to John Street directly next to the courtyard entrance in John Street. Access into the building is through a level access courtyard with a distance of approx. 30 metres from the street into the main entrance. The accessible toilets are 10 metres level distance from the main entrance and the public events space.

John Street is 3 minutes walk from Stroud Rail Station and also from the three town centre car parks at London Rd, Church St and Merrywalks.

SVA : Access and Parking

The nearest public parking is at Stroud Rail station (3 mins walk to John St ). For people with access requirements there is a designated disabled parking place outside John St.

If you have Access requirements please read our Access Guide to help you plan your visit.

The Goods Shed, Station Yard, Stroud. GL5 3AP.

SVA is currently seeking funding to improve disability access to The Goods Shed. Regrettably, the venue does not have level access and is not wheelchair accessible due to five steps in the entrance area.

The main entrance opens directly onto the public cark park area. The toilets have ground level access, the doorways and corridor are 90cm wide. One toilet is 1.5 metres x 2 metres and has a support rail plus an emergency pull cord. The toilet block can be found outside of the main venue - on the end of the studio block, approx. 30 metres level distance from the main entrance. The door to the toilet block opens directly on the car park area. Vehicles can drop off people with disabilities to the Goods Shed directly next to the front door.

The Goods Shed is in Stroud Train Station car park on the town centre side. As you face the train station follow the road round to the left through the car park, and you will see the Goods Shed in front of you on the right hand side.

Goods Shed : Access and Parking

Hearing facility

There is currently no induction loop in John Street or the Goods Shed. SVA is working to improve disability access at our venues and events. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Open Studios Access

Currently we don’t have a system to grade access for each studio and give reliable access information for every venue. At the moment we advise visitors to ring venues before you visit to check access with every artist using the contact information in the directory, however we are aware of the difficulties this may cause.

SVA is currently seeking funding to improve disability access to more of our events, and in the meantime please read our Access Guide to help you plan your visit to both SVA and The Goods Shed.

Larger arts venues that are often taking part in Open Studios will have their own access information:

  • SVA - SVA in John Street is fully accessible to wheelchair users, with fully accessible toilets as well. The only studios without an accessible lift are the upper floors of Summerfield Studios above the gallery.

  • Museum in the Park - The museum is fully accessible to wheelchair users, awarded five stars by Accessible Gloucestershire.

  • Three Storeys Nailsworth - The ground floor is entirely wheelchair accessible, with a disabled toilet. Situated within the Old Bristol Road car park.

  • Victoria Works, Chalford - There are small steps into and throughout the building. The floor is uneven in places, which you need to be aware of. If you are visiting an Open Studio event or one of the residents, some of the studios are up steep stairs.
